Our STEM advantage enables the success of naval missions, yet, America is losing its STEM lead. Students' declining interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers is adversely affecting the future operations and capabilities of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, posing a challenge to the country's economic health and national defense. So, together with the Secretary of the Navy, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) is energizing the Navy's STEM strategy.
Recognizing that a healthy science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce is critical to meeting the Navy and Marine Corps’ greatest challenges, the Department of the Navy is committed to doubling its investment in STEM over the next five years. This commitment answers a national call by President Obama to improve our country’s STEM education over the next decade. NEEC is an essential part of this strategy.
Technology is exploding at a rapid pace. This video, created in 2008, captures the essence of that change and is very relevant today.
Led by the University of Michigan, the NEEC is composed of the U.S. Navy, The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE), The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) and 15 institutions of higher education all of which are based in the U.S.A. The NEEC leverages this collection of partnerships to share knowledge and resources in addition to creating a consistent learning experience regardless of where you obtain your Naval Engineering education.
